Exporting content to Word Document(s)
Before you begin
Before you can export content from Carbon Editor in a DOCX format, you must have a custom Word theme.
If you would like additional support for a Word theme for your content, please contact Liquid State Support.
Styling a Word Export
Word exports are styled using a template document, which defines a preset set of styles that are used for the conversion. To get started, you need to download the template document.
Configuring the styles
To configure each style in the template document, you:
Open the template document in Word
Each style will be presented with demo text, usually the style name
Locate the style you want to change
Restyle the demo text to your liking
Locate the style in the styles pane at the top of the document; it will have a selected border, and usually the same name as the demo text
Right-click on the style and select "Update Style to match selection"
Save the document
Custom fonts
If you are using custom fonts in your document, you will need to save them in the template document. To do this, you:
With the template document open,
Windows:
Open the "File" menu
Select "Options"
Select the Save tab
Select the "Embed fonts in the file" option
Note: Select the “Do not embed common system fonts“ sub-option under it to reduce the word export file size of documents using this template
or Mac:Open the "Word" menu
Select "Preferences"
Select the Save tab
Select the "Embed fonts in the file" option
Note: Select the “Do not embed common system fonts“ sub-option under it to reduce the word export file size of documents using this template
Save the document
Uploading the template document
Once you have configured the styles in the template document, you need to upload it to the style assets. To do this, you:
Ensure your document is called "reference.docx"
Create a new zip file containing only "reference.docx"
Create a new Document Theme using Word format and save it
From the list of available document themes, click on the View Page Styles button next to the Word document theme you just created
Navigate to the Upload Assets page under the Edit button’s dropdown options
Upload your "reference.docx" zip file
To check that your assets have been uploaded correctly, navigate to the View Style Assets page under the Edit button’s dropdown options
Your uploaded assets should display as a single entry in the asset list; it should be named "reference.docx".
Export DOCX from Carbon Editor
To get started, export your document from Carbon Editor, using the Word export option.
The resultant file will be a zip file that must be extracted to access the DOCX content. Follow the instructions in Exporting a Document to find out more about exporting a document.
To access the DOCX file:
Download the Word export from Carbon Editor
Locate the .zip folder in your Downloads folder or another downloads location
Right-click and extract the contents using your desired program (7-Zip is free and open source if you need a reliable program)
Locate the extracted folder
