How to: Install an iOS App via TestFlight

iOS test apps can be installed via Apple's beta app testing service, TestFlight.

In order to download an iOS test app, you must first install the TestFlight app on to your iPhone or iPad. TestFlight can only be installed on devices running iOS 8 or up.

TestFlight access is provided via invitation emails. Once an app has been installed via TestFlight, subsequent app updates can be downloaded directly from the TestFlight app.

 

Installing the TestFlight App

To begin, you must install the TestFlight app on to your iPhone or iPad. To do so:

  1. Open the App Store
  2. Search for TestFlight
  3. Tap the Get button next to the TestFlight app entry
  4. Tap Install

The TestFlight app will be installed on to your device.


 

 

Installing a Test App via TestFlight

When the test app is ready, you will receive an email containing an invitation to install it via TestFlight.

  1. Patiently wait, an invitation will be sent to your Email
  2. Locate the email titled "Testflight: Company Name invited you to test App Name"
  3. Accept the invitation from the email

The exact process will depend on whether you have your email account set up in the Mail app on your iPhone or iPad.

 I have my email set up in the Mail app...
  1. Open the Mail app
  2. Open the TestFlight invitation email

  3. Within the email, tap the Start Testing button
     

  4. You will be taken to the TestFlight app, which will display a page for the test app
  5. Tap the Accept button

The test app will be downloaded on to your device.

Apps installed via TestFlight have a small orange dot next to their name on the home screen.
 

 I don't have my email set up in the Mail app...
  1. Access your email inbox
  2. Open the TestFlight invitation email
  3. Within the email, click/tap the Start Testing button
  4. You will be taken to a webpage that includes an invitation code. Take note of this code.
  5. Open the TestFlight app on your device.
  6. Scroll to the bottom of the page and tap Redeem.
     
  7. Enter the invitation code and tap Redeem at the top-right of screen to confirm.

The test app will be downloaded on to your device.

Apps installed via TestFlight have a small orange dot next to their name on the home screen.
