3.4 Engagement Check Creation
Contents
This section provides step-by-step instructions on how to create engagement checks for a Pathway.
What are Engagement Checks?
Engagement Checks are tracking-based rules that can be used to configure onward personalised communications depending on a patient’s engagement with single or multiple pieces of content delivered via a pathway.
STEP 1: Navigate to Pathway
Select the Pathway drop-down menu option from the menu panel on the left-hand side. Select a pathway and click on it.
STEP 2: Create a new Engagement Check
Under the “Engagement Checks” card, click on the “+ Add Engagement Check” button on the top right corner of the card to start creating an engagement check.
STEP 3: Select Content Items
Select one or more content items whose engagement (by the patient in the mobile app) you wish to check for onward communications by clicking on the “+ Add content“ button.
Select one or more content items from the “Add content“ list, and click “Add“
You can remove content items you might have accidentally selected by clicking the “ Remove” button
Click the next arrow to proceed.
STEP 4: Select Check Type
Selecting a Check Type determines which type of patient’s engagement with the chosen Content Item(s) is a pass (success) condition to execute onward personalised communications configured in “STEP 6: Choose Action”. There are 3 Check Types -
All Content Items have been engaged with:
If the Check Type has been set to ‘All Content Items have been engaged with’, then the PEP Health app user must engage with all of the selected Content Item(s) at least once for the engagement check to pass.
At least N selected Content Items have been engaged with:
If the Check Type has been set to ‘At least N selected Content Items have been engaged with’ and you specify a minimum number of Content Item(s) (for example, N = 2) to be engaged with, then the engagement check would pass if the PEP Health app user engages with at least the specified number of Content Item(s) or more, i.e., content items engaged with is >= 2.For example, if your Content Items are three different forms, and you specify “2” in the field below (see screenshot), then, if any two of the three forms are submitted (“engaged with“) at least once, the check to would pass.
Zero Content Item has been engaged with:
If the Check Type has been set to ‘Zero Content Item has been engaged with’, then the PEP Health app user must have not engaged with any of the selected Content Item(s) even once for the engagement check to pass.
Click the next arrow to proceed.
STEP 5: Set Timing
Setting the Timing for engagement checks in this step refers to two things -
Timing to perform the engagement check: Setting the period/duration for when the engagement check needs to be performed.
Timing to execute the Action: Setting the period/duration for when the personalised onward communications, configured in “STEP 6: Choose Action”, needs to be executed.
In most cases, both are set by defining the ‘Check engagement from’ and ‘Check engagement until’ and NOT selecting the ‘Consider events in a different time period’ checkbox.
In complex scenarios, the period/duration of performing the engagement check and the period/duration of executing the personalised onward communications may need to differ. In this case, you will need to SELECT the ‘Consider events in a different time period’ checkbox and define the ‘Check engagement from’ and ‘Check engagement until’ for each one separately (see screenshot below).
Here, ‘Check engagement from’ and ‘Check engagement until’ are used to define the endpoints of performing an engagement check and executing the personalised onward communications. If a PEP Health app user’s health journey is currently outside this time, the engagement check and the personalised onward communications configured in “STEP 6: Choose Action”, will be ignored.
There are four ways to define the endpoints and set the timing for an engagement check -
Entering a stage: Use a pathway stage or +/- time in relation to pathway stages as execution endpoints
The date of an Index Event: Use an index event date or +/- time in relation to index event dates as execution endpoints
The execution of a rule: Use a pathway rule execution or +/- time in relation to pathway rule executions as execution endpoints
The submission of a form: Use a form submission or +/- time in relation to orm submissions as execution endpoints
Click the next arrow to proceed.
STEP 6: Choose Action
In this step, you can configure what action (personalised onward communications) needs to be taken once an engagement check passes. Below are the possible actions you can configure based on the engagement of a PEP Health app user -
Feature a Document
Feature a Video
Feature a Form
Feature a Questionnaire
Feature a Task
Feature a Web Link (Website or Webform)
Send a Message
Send an Alert
Send a Reminder
Transition to next stage
Select one of the actions mentioned above, then choose one content item from the list that pops up. It will be featured in the PEP Health app for a user once the engagement check passes.
For example, if you want to send a message once a form is submitted then select ‘Send a Message' and then select one message from the pop-up message list.
Click the next arrow to proceed.
STEP 7: Set Occurrences
Occurrences determine the number of times the “STEP 6: Choose Action” will be triggered if a PEP Health app user’s engagement with the selected content item (s) specified in “STEP 3: Select Content Items” matches the selected engagement check type “STEP 4: Select Check Type”, and is within the specified period/duration configured in “STEP 5: Set Timing”.
There are four ways to set occurrences for personalised onward communications chosen in “STEP 6: Choose Action” -
Stop after the Action has been executed once: This option allows you to trigger the action chosen in “STEP 6: Choose Action” only ONCE. The engagement check is then disabled.
Stop after the Action has been executed a specific number of times: This option allows you to trigger the action chosen in “STEP 6: Choose Action” the specified number of times (for example, after 3 times in the screenshot below). The engagement check is then disabled.
Until the Until condition is met (see Timing step): This option allows you to trigger the action chosen in “STEP 6: Choose Action” once every day until the specified period/duration configured in “STEP 5: Set Timing” has been reached. The engagement check is then disabled.
Until another engagement check has passed: This option allows you to trigger the action chosen in “STEP 6: Choose Action” once every day until another engagement check selected from the pop-up list has passed (for example, ‘Example Engagement Check 1’ in the screenshot below). The engagement check is then disabled.
Click the next arrow to proceed.
STEP 8: Add Details
Add the key details for the engagement check starting with the “Name”.
Tip: use a consistent naming scheme, for example, the type of Action or Check Type.
For example, Feature a success message or Check form submission
Next, add a “Description” for the engagement check and click the next arrow to proceed.
STEP 9: Review
Review the details of the Engagement Check. Click on the back arrow to make changes after you review. Once you have confirmed the details, click the ‘Save’ icon to complete creating the new Engagement Check.
